Are you too cool for forgiveness?

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”  –Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 6:14-15)

I confess that I’m still a work in progress when it comes to admitting fault and granting forgiveness, but God has brought me a long way from where I used to be. This subject often reminds me of a classic scene from the vintage TV series “Happy Days” where the Fonz battles being to cool admit he was wrong. (Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwkU8-d1gIk)

How are you when it comes to admitting fault and asking for forgiveness? What about granting forgiveness to others who’ve wronged you? Jesus made it clear in the verse above (and in many others) that the way we treat others when it comes to forgiveness is ultimately how our Heavenly Father will treat us.  How will that work out for you?  Hopefully, pretty well!  But I know for me that God had to open my eyes to see that His standard of “righteousness” was more unbiased and eternally more important than my own standard.  And when it became apparent that I needed way more forgiveness from Him than anyone needed from me, my life (and destiny) began to change.

Have a great week and I hope to see you on Sunday!

Forgiven much,
–Rich
